Munshiganj-3 Constituency Awami League candidate Mrinal Kanti Das’ election camp was attacked and his supporter Dalim Sarkar (30) was shot dead. Another of his supporters named Sohail was injured in this incident.
At 12:30 pm yesterday, Wednesday, there was an attack on the boat election camp in Munshikandi village of Mollakandi union of Sadar upazila. After that they were taken to Munshiganj General Hospital. From there, Dalim was taken to Dhaka Medical College (DHMC) Hospital for advanced treatment, and the doctor declared him dead early Thursday morning.
Dalim Sarkar is the son of Noor Hussain Sarkar of Munsikandi village.
Complaints have been made, the candidate of the scissors symbol. Sipon Hossain, younger brother of Faisal’s supporter and Chairman of Mollakandi Union, Ripon Hossain Patwari, committed this incident.
The injured Sohail told Independent Television, ‘We were staying at the boat camp in Munshikandi area. At that time, a group of 10 to 12 people led by Sohag and Sipon, supporters of Kanchi Prateek, suddenly opened fire at the boat camp. When Dalim was shot, I tried to escape. But when I hit my waist with a stick, I fell down. Then I jumped into the pond to save myself. When the attackers run away, come up to the bank.’
Dr. Munshiganj General Hospital emergency department doctor. Mohammad Sohag said, ‘Two people were brought to the hospital with injuries around 1:30 am. Among them, a person named Dalim was shot in the left rib. As his condition is serious, he was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
But Dalim died after taking it to Dhaka. Confirming the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Thandar Khairul Hasan of Munshiganj said, ‘Dalim died before receiving treatment after taking Dhaka. From what we have heard, there was a conflict between the pomegranates and the pomegranate killers from a long time ago. However, political people say that the incident happened around the election.
However, when Ripon Hossain’s mobile phone was called to inquire about the complaint, it was found switched off.
