Husband Minhaj Ali (45) has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on the charge of strangulating his wife by tying a rope around her neck due to a family dispute in East Vurulia area of Gazipur Sadar police station.
Major Yasir Arafat Hossain, Company Commander of Porabari Camp of RAB-1, said that he was arrested from Mugda area of the capital on Saturday night. This information was given in a press briefing organized at Porabari camp of RAB-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Arrested Minhaj Ali is the son of Mumtaz Ali of Dakshin Basudebpur village of Dinajpur district.
In the initial interrogation of RAB, the accused Minhaj Ali said that due to a family dispute, he strangled his sleeping wife Rachma Khatun by twisting a rope around his neck on the night of December 6. After the murder, Rachma packed the body and threw it in the septic tank in front of the house and ran away.
The RAB official said that on December 8, the police recovered the melted body of garment worker Rachma Khatun (42) from inside the septic tank in front of the rented house in Vurulia area. In this regard, Golam Rachul, the father of Rachma Khatun, who was killed in Sadar police station, filed a case against the fugitive Minhaj Ali as the plaintiff. After the case, a team of RAB-1 conducted an operation with the help of information technology at night and arrested the main accused, Minhaj Ali, who was in hiding from the end of the closed bakery area of Dhaka’s Mugda police station.
RAB official Yasir said that the arrested accused is being handed over to Sadar police station for legal action.
