A husband and wife were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and CNG while attending the funeral of their niece at Kaliakore in Gazipur. The couple’s son was injured in the incident.
This road accident took place at Hossain Market area of Mouchak-Fulbaria road of Kaliakair upazila on Tuesday afternoon. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliakor police station Abul Fazal Mohammad Nasim confirmed the accident.
The deceased are Mujibur Rahman (75) and his wife Habiba (65) of Kachighata village of Fulbaria Union of Kaliakair Upazila. They were going to attend their niece’s funeral at CNG Yoga.
The couple’s son Habibur Rahman, a physics lecturer at Gazipur Government Women’s College, was injured in the incident. Habibur Rahman passed the 33rd BCS education cadre and is working in that college.
In this regard, Fulbaria Police Camp in-charge Sohel Mollah said that Habib (boy) was returning to Kachighata village with his father and mother at three o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday. When the CNG autorickshaw carrying them reached the Hossain market area of Mouchak-Fulbaria road of Kaliakair upazila, another truck coming from the opposite direction hit the CNG autorickshaw carrying them.
Habibur Rahman, Mojibur Rahman, Habiba Khatun were seriously injured as they were in a CNG auto-rickshaw. When they were rescued and taken to a local hospital, doctors declared Habiba Khatun dead. Later, on the way to take Habibur Rahman and Mojibur Rahman to Dhaka for better treatment, Mojibur Rahman died.
He also said that after the incident, the locals arrested the truck and the driver and handed it over to the police. The arrested truck driver Ali Ahmed (30) is the son of Abdus Chalam of Pineshail village of Joydevpur police station of Gazipur Sadar upazila.
Sabbir Ahmed Kashim, a resident of Mothapara village in Fulbaria, said that Mojibur Rahman’s niece Kamala Khatun died on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon, Mojibur Rahman, his wife Habiba and their son Habibur were coming to Fulbaria’s house to attend the funeral of Kamala Khatun.
