How to make a homemade Easter cake

  • 500 grams of wheat flour
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 200 ml of warm milk
  • 25 grams of fresh yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • a pinch of salt
  • Chocolate eggs to decorate
  • Powdered sugar


1- In a large bowl, crumble the fresh yeast and mix it with the warm milk. Let it sit for a few minutes until the yeast is completely dissolved.

2- Add the flour, sugar, melted butter, eggs and a pinch of salt to the bowl with the yeast mixture.

3- Knead all the ingredients together until you obtain a soft and elastic dough.

4- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rest in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.

5- Preheat the oven to 180°C.

6- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each of them, either into a ball or braid, according to your preference.

7- Place the dough shapes on a previously greased baking tray or lined with baking paper.

8- Beat an egg and paint the surface of the monkeys with it.

9- Place the chocolate eggs on top of the dough.

9- Bake the monkeys in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden.

10- Once baked, remove the monkeys from the oven and let them cool completely.

11- Before serving, sprinkle the monkeys with icing sugar for a perfect finishing touch.
