Six people were burnt in a house fire in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. The incident took place in a tin shed house in Barmashil Baghpara area of Siddhirganj upazila around 10 pm on Wednesday. The burn victims were brought to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 2 am on Thursday.
The injured are — Sukhi Akhtar (32), his daughter Sadia (11), sister Jannati Akhtar (16), brother Arif Howladar (21), cousin Rahima Akhtar (35) and Rahima’s daughter Ritu (14).
One of their relatives named Jahangir said that Sukhi and his family live in a tin shed house in Baghpara area. Her husband Noor Mohammad works. 16-17 days ago they had a baby. Relatives came home to see their child. At night that house suddenly caught fire. They were immediately rescued and taken to the hospital after receiving the news. Later it was learned that this accident happened while lighting the mosquito coil.
Resident doctor of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr. Tariqul Islam said that six people including women and children were brought to our emergency department last night from Narayanganj. Among them Rahima Akhtar 45 percent, Sukhi Akhtar 17 percent, Jannati Akhtar 15 percent, Sadia Akhtar 5 percent, Arif 3 percent and Ritu Akhtar 10 percent.
Among the burn victims, Rahima Akhtar has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Sukhi Akhtar and Jannati Akhtar in the K ward. The rest have been kept under observation in the emergency department.
