In Tongi, Gazipur, Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was stabbed by a robber. A garment worker named Nayan Mridha (38) was killed. The incident took place in the Tongi Hossain market area of the highway on Wednesday morning.

The deceased Md. Nayan Mridha is the son of Abdul Mannan of Madarkathi village of Banaripara upazila of Barisal district. He used to work in a local garment factory from a rented house in Tongi Hossain Market area.
According to police and local sources, Nayan Mridha was returning to Tongi from his village home after a few days of vacation. When he got off the bus at Tongir Hossain Market area around 4:30 am on Wednesday, two-three robbers got off a motorcycle and stopped him. At that time, they tried to rob Nayan’s bag, mobile phone and money. Nayan Mridha and the robbers clashed over this. At one stage the robbers started stabbing him. At that time, when the people around came forward, the robbers left the motorcycle and ran away. Later Nayan was rescued and taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur where doctors declared him brought dead.
OC Md. Sakhawat Hossain said, “The deceased Nayan Mridha has knife injuries below the shoulder and legs. The motorcycle used by the robbers was seized from the spot. An operation is underway to nab those involved. Legal arrangements are under process, including handover of the body to the next of kin.’
