Police recovered the hanging bodies of father and son from a rented house in Kushtia. Their bodies were recovered from their house in Mangalbaria area of the district town on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased are Madhu (42), a tenant of Selim’s house in Mangalbaria area of Ward No. 16 of Kushtia municipality, and his only son, Mochad (7).
According to the local police, the deceased Rezaul Karim Madhu is the son of Bishnupad Roy of Alpha Mor area of Kushtia municipality. Madhu converted to Islam a few years ago. He was a goldsmith by profession.
According to the police, about eight years ago, Rezaul Karim Madhu converted and married Shefali Khatun, daughter of Asadul Mandal of Gobindpur village of Poradah union of Mirpur upazila. Before his conversion, his name was Madhusudan Roy. As his wife was ill, Rezaul was staying at his in-laws house at Alfa Mor for several days.
Madhu left the house at around 12 noon on Saturday with her son Madhu to admit him to Harekrishnapur Primary School. After a long time passed but he did not return with the child, mother Shefali came to their rented house next door. He came and found the door of the house closed and called out. After getting no response, she saw her husband and child hanging from the same rope in the house through the window. Neighbors came and informed the police on his screams. The police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Sheikh Sohail Rana said, ‘Nothing can be said now. Although it appears to be suicide initially, there may be two cases of suicide and murder. A father may commit suicide after killing his son.
Citing relatives, the OC said that Rezaul was suffering from many complications regarding the amendment of his national identity card since his conversion. Because of which he could not get his son admitted in school. He was very angry about this. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the post-mortem report.
