Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTCA) rescue ships Nirbhika and Pratyaya are going to the scene from Narayanganj to rescue the ferry Rajnigandha that sank at Paturia Ghat in Manikganj. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Director (Trade) SM Ashikuzzaman confirmed the matter.

Ashikuzzaman said, utility ferry ‘Rajnigandha’ was built in 2014. The weight of this boat is about 250 tons. As BIWTA’s rescue ships ‘Hamza’ and ‘Rustam’ are not capable of lifting heavy vessels, BIWTA’s rescue ships Nirbhaya and Pratyaya are being brought to the accident site.

BIWTC director said rescue ship is coming. We are all on the spot. Here is Hamza. But Hamza does not have this capacity. The trucks will be rescued by Hamza.

Earlier on Wednesday at 8:30 am, the Rajnigandhya ferry anchored at Paturia’s ghat number 5 sank due to the impact of the bulkhead. BIWTCA’s Paturia Ghat manager Abdus Salam said the ferry was anchored along with the truck. A sandbar bulkhead rammed the ferry out of sight in thick fog. The ferry sank.

According to the fire service, 6 people have been rescued alive so far in this incident. However, no casualty has been reported yet.
