For the arrears of 500 Tk. A landlord injured a tenant named Russell by tying him to a tree and beating him with a hammer. The incident took place in Mughalnagar area of Matuail last Monday afternoon.
The victim of the torture of the landlord has broken both legs of the tenant. Apart from this, the doctor in charge said that 32 stitches were needed on the head.
According to Russell’s relatives, his landlord Jahangir pressured Russell to leave the house on Monday afternoon due to Tk 500 house rent arrears. At one point he threw the furniture out of Russell’s room. The two started quarreling and then fighting. Russell was later tied to a tree and beaten with a hammer.
On receiving information, the Demra police station rescued the injured Russell from the spot and sent him to the hospital. He is currently under treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.
A case of attempted murder has been filed against the landlord Jahangir in this incident. The court ordered to send him to jail on Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Demra Police Station Zahirul Islam said that after the victim’s father filed a case, the accused house owner was arrested and sent to jail. Other accused in the case are absconding, operation is on to arrest them.
