Govt working to double exports: Nanak in Germany

The government is working to increase the export of jute and handicraft products in order to diversify the export products from Bangladesh. Jute and Textiles Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak said this while participating in the ongoing five-day international home goods fair ‘Ambiente Frankfurt’ in Germany.

He also said that the government will pay special attention to double the exports in this sector in the next two to three years.

This year, around 5,000 companies from 170 countries are exhibiting their products at Ambiente Frankfurt. Various products of plastic, jute, ceramics and handicrafts produced in Bangladesh are being displayed in the fair. Among the companies from Bangladesh, a total of 59 companies participated, including 12 supported by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Jute and Textile Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak inaugurated the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) stall on the opening day of the fair. Saiful Islam, Minister (Commercial) of the Bangladesh Embassy in Germany is doing the overall supervision of the Export Development Bureau stall.

Minister of Jute and Textiles paid a courtesy call on Frankfurt Fair Head of International Stefan Sundar. Omar Salahuddin, chief officer of South Asia of the fair, was present at this time. During the meeting, assurances were given from both sides regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the next fair on a larger scale. The Minister also visited various stalls participating in Ambiente 2024 from Bangladesh.

At that time, the ambassador of Bangladesh appointed in Germany. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was present.

Minister Nanak said that the government is making all efforts to increase the amount of exports abroad. As part of this, he took part in this fair with special importance on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

Handicraft products have been announced by the Prime Minister as the Product of the Year this year and special importance is being given to this industry, said the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Germany. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

It should be noted that this fair in Frankfurt is the largest fair in the world in terms of marketing household products in the world. Products are not sold directly in this fair. Only product display and business contracts are executed with manufacturing companies and marketing companies or institutions.
