The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will look into the theft of 55 kg of gold from the customs vault at Shahjalal International Airport. ACC Secretary Mahbub Hossain said that a three-member team has been formed in this regard.
The ACC Secretary also told journalists on Wednesday afternoon that the team will share information with the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
Gold bars, ornaments and valuables seized from passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport are kept in the warehouse of Dhaka Customs House. In August last year, 55 kg of gold was stolen from the vault. A few days later, it was learned that around 20 kg of gold was also stolen from the vault of Benapole land port in Jessore. ACC detectives went to the field to investigate the matter.
In this context, the ACC Secretary also said that a report will be prepared by collecting the information before and after the incident. After submitting the report, it will be known from there who is involved in this theft.
Preliminary investigation shows that no one has access to the warehouse except the customs officials.
According to various intelligence reports, almost all the voltes are misidentified as gold by Customs.
