Gazipur without tourists due to strike-blockade, traders are facing losses

The number of tourists has decreased in the resorts, parks and entertainment centers of Gazipur due to strike-blockade. One after another booking is canceled even in full season. Businessmen are facing losses. If the stalemate continues, the losses are likely to increase further in the future.

Thousands of tourists come to Gazipur on special holidays apart from the usual weekends. However, due to the hartal-blockade that started on October 28, the tourist centers here have become almost devoid of tourists.

Bookings are being canceled one after another in hundreds of small and big resorts including 76 registered resorts. Various tourist centers including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Bhawal National Park in Gazipur are crowded with visitors at this time of the year but now the number is very less.

Manager of Sara Resort Kamrul Islam said, ‘We are in such a situation that we are very worried about our maintenance cost, staff salary. Corporate bookings have also reduced a lot.’

Kazi Alim Uddin, the owner of Adurikunj Resort, said, ‘The current situation, we have no income but we have expenses. If this continues, we will have no choice but to close these resorts.’

There are more than two hundred resorts, picnic and shooting spots in Gazipur.
