Fuel oil can be bought online soon

The days of long waiting to buy fuel are coming to an end. Residents of major cities of the country will soon be able to buy fuel oil by ordering online. The government has approved a new policy for online sale and home delivery of diesel, petrol, octane and lubricant oils. This information is known in a report of the media The Business Standard.

On January 3, the Energy Department published a gadget named ‘Policy on Appointment of Dealers/Suppliers for Sale/Supply of Fuel Products through Mobile Mode Using Digital Technology, 2024’. The new policy covers the supply of fuel oil to various sectors ranging from residential buildings to industrial plants, commercial buildings, government buildings, generators for commercial vehicles, heavy construction equipment.

According to the policy, online fuel oil supply will be limited to Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Barisal, Rangpur, Comilla, Narayanganj and Gazipur metropolitan areas or city corporations only. Fuel oil cannot be sold in this manner from any place outside it.

Fuel oil will be sold online at the price set by the government. However, apart from the fixed price, the service charge has to be paid according to the delivery distance. Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) authorized institutions will supply these oils in tankers or jerrycans. A service charge of Rs.1 per liter if supplied in tankers, and Rs.2 per liter if supplied in jerrycans.

The type of company that can sell fuel oil online

Currently the companies selling fuel oil and any other person or organization can sell and supply under this system. However, for this the organizations must be Digital Business Identity (DBIN) number holders and registered with the ICT Department or Bangladesh Computer Council to provide services to the energy sector.

Apart from this, the trade license should mention online marketing or e-commerce and should have an annual turnover of at least three crore rupees in the last three years. The paid-up capital of these organizations should be Tk 10 lakh in the registration of the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC). Also should be a member of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) or E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB).

These organizations should have their own app or weblink, operational software and their own logo. Must have own product transportation and storage system.

How to buy fuel online

To buy fuel online, the buyer has to register on the BPC approved company’s apps or weblinks. In case of registration, name of organization or person, NID number, VAT registration number (if any), mobile number, address of delivery location should be given. Payment can be made through bank, mobile banking and digital gateway.
