Captain (retd) Abdus Sobhan, the sub-sector commander of Cox’s Bazar-Bandarban sector of the Great War of Liberation and the hero of declaring Cox’s Bazar free from invaders on December 12, 1971, has passed away. He breathed his last on Friday night at his residence in Morichya, Ukhia.
The funeral of Abdus Sobhan was held today Saturday at 3 pm at Morichya Muktijoddha Smriti Girls High School grounds. Thousands of people flocked to it.
Many rushed from remote areas of the district to catch a glimpse of Abdus Sobhan for the last time. Ukhia Upazila Executive Officer Tanvir Hossain provided the guard of honor on behalf of the state.
Earlier, when Abdus Sobhan’s body was brought to Muktijoddha Smriti Balika High School at around 2.30 pm, leaders and workers of various political, social, cultural and voluntary organizations including Muktijoddha Sangsad paid floral tributes.
Later, after the funeral prayers, his body was buried at the West Murichya family cemetery.
