A former UP member named Abdur Rahman alias Rahm (70) was killed after being hit by a covered van at Santhiya in Pabna. The accident took place in the Patgari Tuku Dam area of the upazila around 8 am on Wednesday.
The deceased is the son of deceased Mahesh Ali of Patgari village of Raham upazila. He is a former member of ward number 6 of Nagdemara Union and organizing secretary of Nagdemara Union Awami League.
According to local and highway police sources, Abdur Rahman alias Rahm was returning home after taking a bath from the local pond around 8 am. He was crushed by a Dhaka-bound cement-laden covered van that left the fence while crossing the road through the Jute barrage area of the Pabna-Dhaka highway. The driver of the covered van fled immediately after the incident.
Locals rescued Raham with serious injuries and admitted him to Bara Upazila Health Complex. When his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College. On the way he died when he reached a place called Ullapara.
SI Shahidul Islam of Santhia’s Madhpur Highway Police Station admitted the truth of the incident and said, ‘The killer’s covered van has been seized. As the driver was absconding, he could not be arrested. The children of the deceased are out of the area. If the family complains, legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
