Fishing trawler sinks after being hit by bulkhead in Hatiya, fishermen missing

A fishing trawler sank in the Meghna River in Hatia, Dwip Upazila of Noakhali on Sunday night after being hit by a bulkhead. A jailer missing in that incident has not been found yet.

The fisherman named Mridul Das (20) is the son of Haribandhu Das of Fazal Majhi village of Nalchira union of the upazila.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Nalchira Naval Police Outpost Amit Kumar Saha said, “On Sunday around 12:30 pm, a ballgate carrying sand bound for Chittagong lost control and hit a fishing trawler near Nalchira ghat. At this time, the trawler with 7 fishermen sank in the river. Fishermen from another trawler nearby rescued six fishermen, but one fisherman named Mridul went missing.

As there is no diving team, efforts are being made to rescue the missing fisherman with the help of local fishermen, said the naval police.
