Miscreants set fire to a compartment of the ‘Uttara Express’ mail train in Joypurhat. The incident took place at Joypurhat station area on Friday midnight. A few seats of a train compartment were burnt in the fire.
In this context, Santahar Railway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muktar Hossain said that the Parbatipur-bound ‘Uttra Express’ mail train that left Rajshahi station stopped at Joypurhat station. At that time, the passengers on the platform of the station saw a fire burning in a compartment of the train and quickly extinguished the fire. There were no casualties. It is believed that miscreants set fire to a compartment of the train sometime before arriving at Joypurhat station.
OC Muktar Hossain also said that the train left the station and left for its destination. Details will be known after investigating the matter. The OC also confirmed that the police will take legal action accordingly.
Earlier, on Wednesday (December 13) at around 4 am, seven coaches of the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train derailed along with the engine on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line. One passenger died in this incident. More than fifty people were injured.
