Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali wants Britain to help restore the country’s economy. He said this in response to reporters’ questions after meeting British High Commissioner Sarah Cook in his office at the Secretariat today.
The finance minister said, ‘We have a long-standing relationship with the UK. We discussed many ideas. We also want, and the UK also wants to help. As they have been working with us for a long time, they also understand the situation in Bangladesh. They also have experience in this matter.’
In response to the question in which economic cooperation will be available, he said, ‘They want to help us. In some sectors it cannot be said now. They are being discussed now.’
When asked if you have asked for any help, the minister said, ‘Yes, of course. Now it depends on how they want to cooperate with us. I said, you have been here for a long time. We have a relationship. So see what you can offer. They said, they are seeing what can be done. How can they help?’
We are facing economic challenges. In response to the question of how the United Kingdom will cooperate with us, the British High Commissioner said, ‘We had a very good discussion. We discussed how the UK and Bangladesh can work together economically. We have supported to build sustainable Bangladesh. Bangladesh has already successfully completed the graduation of developing countries, we were by their side. Because we are always with them in building developing countries.’
