Farmers of Haor region are busy tending Boro paddy seedbeds in Kishoreganj. However, there are concerns about insect attacks and the cost of fertilisers, diesel. The agriculture department expects more than the target boro paddy production if the weather conditions are favourable.
Farmers of Haor area of Kishoreganj are giving water and fertilizer to prepare Boro paddy seed bed in traditional way. Meanwhile seed beds have been prepared on 7 thousand 890 hectares of land.
Farmers are happy as the water level of Haor has dropped rapidly in the current season. Seedlings can be planted on time. However, farmers are worried about insect attack and fertilizer diesel prices.
Farmer Ikram Mia said, ‘Seedlings are done, now I will take them to the land and plant them. The price of fertilizer is high, the price of diesel is high, if the government reduces the price for us, it would be good for us. If the weather is bad, our forehead is bad. This year, the water went quickly.’
The agriculture office is giving all kinds of advice to the farmers of Haor area starting from the preparation of boro paddy seed beds.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department. Abdus Sattar said, ‘Farmer brothers are planting seeds. Besides, the land is also being prepared. The weather is favorable this year. We hope that the farmers of Haor area will get a bumper yield this time by cultivating boro paddy.
This year, the target of boro cultivation has been set at 1 lakh 66 thousand 500 hectares. Out of this, only 1 lakh 4 thousand hectares of land will be cultivated in Hawari.
