RAB has arrested four people including the current chairman Mithun Halder in the murder case of Shekhar Kumar Shikder, former chairman of Atghar Kuriana Union of Nesharabad Upazila of Pirojpur. They were arrested from Mollarhat police station in Bagerhat district on Tuesday night.
The arrested are – the current chairman Mithun Halder and his associate Susham Halder, Jalis Mahmud and Md. Aminul Islam.
In a press conference at Barisal RAB-8 office today at 12:30 pm, RAB-8 chief Zubair Alam Shovan confirmed this information.
Former chairman Shekhar Kumar Shikder left home on Tuesday to attend the annual sports and cultural program of a school. On the way, several people led by Mithun Haldar hit him with sticks and bricks due to previous enmity. After that, the accused left him there thinking he was dead.
Later the locals rescued Shekhar Kumar Shikdar and took him to Nesharabad first and then to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Mala Mandal, the wife of Shekhar Kumar Shikder, who was killed in this incident filed a case at Nesharabad police station as the plaintiff.
RAB official Zubair Alam Shovan said that after the incident, those involved in the murder hid in different parts of the country to avoid arrest. Later RAB arrested them with the help of information technology.
