Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that there will be an independent candidate in the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections despite the objections of the partners. He made this comment at a press briefing at the Awami League president’s office in Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Obaidul Quader said, ‘Independent candidates have been told to follow the code of conduct and not to use force. Can compete. Partners may have objections. But I said clearly, there will be independent candidates.
Obaidul Quader mentioned BNP as a big threat to security and said, ‘Their blockade means arson. Elections cannot be thwarted by violence. They will terrorize and the government will sit, this is their wrong idea. Strict action will be taken. Urge the EC to take strict action against any anti-election activities.’
General secretary of Awami League said, ‘Awami League is against debating the army on all issues. Their role in the election is recorded. The EC will appoint them as a task force. I don’t want to say much.’
Obaidul Quader said, ‘There are some people who are alarmed, horrified, and clamoring for higher degrees. Whatever development, achievement is ours. Some people don’t appreciate it. To make the country smaller, the country is defamed by foreigners.’
Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, organizing secretary BM Mozammel Haque, SM Kamal Hossain, Sujit Roy Nandi and others were present in the briefing.
