Even after 10 years of establishment, Rangamati Medical College Hospital could not go to permanent establishment. Educational programs are being conducted in some form in temporary buildings. The people of Rangamati are being deprived of the expected services due to the lack of completion of the medical college and hospital.
Rangamati Medical College Hospital was established in 2014. Academic activities started in 2015 in a building of Rangamati General Hospital.
Even after 10 years of its establishment, the permanent campus has not seen the light of day. The people of the district are not getting any additional medical services from the medical college hospital.
Local residents say that if the permanent campus were to be built, the building would have been bigger and the residents would have got more benefits.
The students are also facing many difficulties due to the education program being carried out in a building. General Hapsatal being a practical class, there is extra pressure there.
Students say that due to insufficient number of classes, one batch has to wait outside until another batch finishes. Apart from this, many of the facilities required in a medical college are not here.
Dr. RMO of Rangamati General Japsatal. Shaukat Akbar Khan said, a building with 100 beds is under construction. If the construction of the building is completed in the next two to three months, the problem will be reduced to a large extent.
Although land has been acquired for a permanent campus at Sukhinilganj in Rangapani of the district, there is no visible initiative so far. Even the post of Medical College Hospital Project Director and 15 teacher posts are also vacant.
Rangamati Medical College Principal Dr. Preeti Prasun Barua said that the post of project manager responsible for looking after the new campus has been vacant for the last eight to nine months.
Currently there are 255 students in Rangamati Medical College Hospital.
