Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed the bill for Sweden’s military alliance to join NATO. He signed the bill on Thursday after it was passed by the Turkish parliament on Tuesday.

As a result, there was no longer any obstacle for Turkey to join Sweden’s Western military alliance. The wait of almost 20 months is over. As per NATO rules, the bill will now be sent to Washington for review.

Meanwhile, Swedish Prime Minister Wolf Kristerson called Turkey’s agreement to become a member of NATO a milestone.

Hungary is now the only country blocking Sweden from joining NATO. On Tuesday, the Hungarian government agreed to discuss the matter.
