Election campaign for candidate, departmental case against teacher

The Department of Education filed a departmental case against the headmaster for campaigning for a candidate in Barhatta of Netrakona in the 12th National Assembly elections. The accused teacher is SM Sazzadul Haque Sabuj. He is working as head teacher of Ashiyal Government Primary School of Barhatta Upazila.

On Monday, Barhatta Upazila Education Officer Sirajul Islam confirmed this information and said that on December 6, the candidate of Islami Oikyazot in Netrakona-2 (Sadar-Barhatta) Constituency Md. An election meeting was held in Char village of Nurulla in Barhatta Upazila, the home of Elias. His workers and supporters were present along with the people of the area. In that meeting, teacher Sazzadul Haque Sabuj urged everyone to work for the candidate Elias.

He can be heard saying to the local residents present at that election meeting, ‘Ilyas (Islamic unity candidate) is a very good boy. He must be held. Everyone will work for Elias.’

The video of the speech given in the meeting came to the notice of Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Shahed Parvez. Later, he directed the district primary education officer to take appropriate measures in this regard. In this incident, the deputy director of the primary education department, the district education officer and the Barhatta upazila education officer gave three separate condolences to the teacher.

A departmental inquiry was also conducted into the incident. Later, after receiving the investigation report, a departmental case was filed against the accused teacher Sajjadul Haque, the departmental deputy director filed the case.

Education officer Sirajul Islam also said, ‘Sajjadul Haque has gone on a month’s leave citing illness.’

The accused teacher claimed that he went to get amulets for the children from a teacher who was present in that meeting. He did not give any election speech.
