Elder brother Alamgir Hossain Pradhan (50) died after younger brother Sukkur Ali Pradhan’s stick hit him while cutting trees in Fatepur East Union of Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur.
This incident took place at Pradhaniya house of Ludhua village of the upazila on Friday afternoon. Police recovered the dead body of the person from the spot and sent it to Chandpur Government General Hospital morgue for autopsy in the afternoon.
Alamgir Hossain is the eldest son of Noor Hossain Pradhan of Auliya Pradhania village in Fatepur East Union of Pradhan Upazila.
Khaleda Begum, the daughter of the deceased, said that her father used to lead a mosque in Dhaka. He came home on Thursday to attend waj mahfil in the area. In the morning his uncle was cutting trees at home. When his father stopped him from cutting the tree, at one point his uncle hit him on the head with a stick and his father fell to the ground.
Locals said that after hearing the screams of the deceased’s wife and children, the neighbors rushed to the spot and rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Locals also said that the deceased Alamgir Hossains were six brothers. There was a long-standing dispute between the brothers over property.
Hospital’s emergency department doctor Kaushik Howladar said, ‘The person was brought to the hospital at quarter past eleven. His nose was bleeding from a severe blow to his head. He is believed to have died of brain haemorrhage.’
Police Inspector (Investigation) Chanwar Hossain of Matlab North Police Station said that the body of the person was recovered and sent to Chandpur Government General Hospital for autopsy in the afternoon. No complaint has been made by the family so far in this incident. Police visited the spot.
