EC wants 1904 more magistrates in polling field

The Election Commission (EC) has asked for 1904 more executive magistrates in 8 divisions to perform duties in the polling field. The EC has written to the Ministry of Public Administration asking for this manpower on an urgent basis.

EC Deputy Secretary. In the letter signed by Atiyar Rahman, it is said that in addition to ensuring the observance of the code of conduct on the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections to be held on January 7, from two days before the polling to two days after the polling i.e. from January 5 to January 9 for a total of 5 days, overall peace and order protection, crime prevention and mobile and striking in the constituency. There will be need for deployment of Executive Magistrates along with forces, especially BGB, Coast Guard and Armed Forces.

In the letter given to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, it is also said that 1162 executive magistrates are engaged in 8 divisions. Besides, 754 executive magistrates are also employed in mobile courts to enforce the code of conduct. Additional 1904 Executive Magistrates are required in 8 Divisions.

Among these 1904 people, 388 people in Dhaka Division, 126 people in Mymensingh Division, 376 people in Chittagong Division, 144 people in Sylhet Division, 219 people in Rajshahi Division, 186 people in Barisal Division, 183 people in Khulna Division and 282 people in Rangpur Division.

According to the letter, the executive magistrates will be appointed as per the demand of the district magistrates and divided into two batches for their training. The first batch of officers will be trained on December 31 and the second batch of officers will be trained on January 2 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center from 10 am to 3 pm.
