The Election Commission (EC) has condemned Awami League’s nominated candidate for Faridpur-4 constituency Kazi Zafar Ullah for violating the electoral code of conduct. This notice was given to Zafar Ullah in a notice signed by Chairman of the Election Inquiry Committee, Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury, on Wednesday.
In view of the complaints made by the independent candidate of the same constituency, Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury, the Election Inquiry Committee ordered him to show this reason.
It is said in the notice, ‘Wednesday December 13, Sheikhpura market of Bhanga Upazila is continuing election activities by using microphones and road meetings. In this regard, a video clip has been published on social media. That link has been observed in the review, you have attended a meeting during the courtesy meeting and exchange of skills with the general public, businessmen and party leaders-activists who came to Sheikhpura market of Bhanga upazila. While addressing that meeting you made the following statement:
The MP who is there is not from our area. He is from Shivchar from Madaripur. He is coming here to cut sand, he is coming to make money, is he coming to change your fate? He says Kazi Mahabullah is a thief. He says I belong to fakir clan. Fakini’s son. You understand that if I say this, if Kazi Mahabullah says this then what will happen to you. How much violence and hatred he has.’
Your statement is contrary to Rule 11(a) of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008. At the same time, you appear to have violated Rule 6(b) and 6(c) of the Rules by participating in the meeting without obtaining written permission from the appropriate authority and notifying the local police authority about the said meeting.
Apart from this, while addressing the meeting, you also mentioned that, InshAllah, we will prove that the people of this area love boats. The boat will vote for the symbol. will vote for Kazi Zafar Ullah – a clear violation of Rule 12 of the Rules.
The notice further states that Zafar Ullah has violated the provisions of Rule 11(a), 6(b) and 6(c) of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008, as well as Rule 12, which constitute pre-election irregularities. Why will the matter not be sent to the Election Commission in order to take necessary action in the matter? By appearing in person at the temporary office of the Election Inquiry Committee, Joint District and Sessions Judge, 2nd Court, District and Sessions Judge Court, Faridpur, by 3:30 pm on December 14 (Thursday).
