EC case against Chittagong-10 MP Mohiuddin Bachchu

The EC filed a case against Chittagong-10 Constituency Member of Parliament Mohiuddin Bachchu for distributing money to the area while he was a candidate in the National Assembly elections.

The case was filed by Election Officer of Doublemooring Police Station Mohammad Mostafa Kamal at Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Judge Md. Salahuddin took note of the case and ordered the accused to appear in court on February 15.

According to Election Commission sources, on December 22, Mohiuddin Bachchu gave 1,000 taka to the imams and muezzins of all the mosques in his constituency. Besides, he gave a check of one lakh rupees to the Madani Mosque of Halishahar. On December 24, 60,000 taka government grant checks were distributed to the imams and muezzins of all mosques in Lalkhanbazar.

Manjur Alam, an independent candidate of that seat, complained to the commission about this on December 24. On December 28, Mohiuddin Bachchu responded to the complaint through a representative. On January 4, the Election Commission directed to file a case against Mohiuddin Bachchu
