A mobile court sentenced six youths to prison and fine for disturbing peace and order in Netrakona’s Durgapur by consuming drugs and causing vandalism, playing loud music. Each was sentenced to six months imprisonment and fined five hundred rupees.

The sentence was given by a mobile court in Durgapur city’s Charmoktarpara area on Saturday night. Those convicted on Sunday have been sent to jail.

Durgapur police station OC Uttam Chandra Dev confirmed the matter and said, ‘Those youths were vandalizing people’s belongings in the area after consuming drugs. They were disturbing the peace and order of the area by playing loud music at night and disrupting the Tarawi prayers of the Muslims. After receiving the complaint, they were arrested from the spot. Later mobile court was conducted there.’

Durgapur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) M. Rakibul Hasan said, ‘There are many more allegations of such activities against those youths. In Durgapur bordering India, youths are getting involved in drugs alarmingly. Due to this, social and family unrest is increasing. Future generations will be destroyed if we can’t stop drugs, so everyone has to work together to stop the spread of drugs.’
