A Malawian national with 8 kg 300 grams of cocaine was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday night by the Narcotics Control Directorate and APBN members. A day later, another African was arrested with cocaine on Thursday evening. A Tanzanian national arrested from a residential hotel in Uttara was carrying 200 grams of cocaine, which has an international market value of around Tk 25 lakh. That cocaine was extracted by the dog squad.
Arrested Mohammad Ali (55) came to Dhaka via Addis Ababa-Doha on January 20 and stayed in room 102 of Hotel Eford Inn. He was arrested in a joint operation by the Dog Squad of the Armed Police Battalion and the Narcotics Control Directorate.
Airport Armed Police Battalion Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque said that based on secret information, a joint raid team of Airport Armed Police and DNC conducted a raid at Hotel Eford Inn in Uttara. At this time, the dog squad of Airport APBN also participated with them.
Mohammed Ali, a citizen of Tanzania, lived in room number 102 on the second floor of the hotel. The raiding party was the first to arrest him. Then when questioned about drugs, he denied it. The room of Mohammed Ali was searched with the help of APBN dog squad which was present at that time. During the search, Dog Ollie of the APBN Dog Squad alerted his handler to the presence of drugs in a black bag carried by foreigner Mohammadi. Later, when the bag was manually searched, 200 grams of cocaine, which has an international market value of around Tk 25 lakh, was recovered hidden inside it in a special way.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ziaul Haque also said that in 2017, Dog Squad of Airport APBN started performing duties at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. APBN started with 8 dogs but currently has 22 dogs. All these dogs are good at detecting explosives and drugs. The bag of drugs was identified in today’s operation with the help of Doug Ollie and his handler Sunetra.
Preparations are underway to file a case under the Narcotics Control Act against the arrested Mohammad Ali at the airport police station.
