Dhaka-New York route flights may start next April. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is optimistic about this. The state organization is hoping for this by taking various security measures at Shahjalal International Airport.
Those concerned say that the United States is satisfied with several issues related to security. So the approval to start the flight can be obtained soon.
Now Biman Bangladesh Airlines is running flights from Dhaka only to London, Manchester and Toronto. However, due to increased demand, they want to operate flights to other routes in Europe and the United States. That is why an application was made to start flights to New York in May last year.
However, since the category of Shahjalal International Airport is not number one, the permission of the Federal Aviation Authority of the United States has not yet been received. Biman’s managing director (MD) Shafiul Azim is optimistic about the launch of New York flights next April by fulfilling all their conditions. He said, ‘The facility of our airport should be upgraded to category-1. And other things are going on at the same time.’
Biman’s Managing Director told Independent Television, ‘We made the final application in May. Now their Federal Aviation Authority is looking into the safety issue. It is expected that the flight will be launched next April.
In the beginning of last December, the United States has expressed satisfaction in several aspects after monitoring the security of Shahjalal Airport. Apart from this, Biman’s MD Shafiul Azim also said that discussions have been held with the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing on some issues including the launch of flights.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority M Mofidur Rahman said, “The Federal Aviation Authority of the United States has monitored the security of the airport. We have given them full cooperation. They also expressed satisfaction on many issues.’
Earlier, Biman flights operated on Dhaka-New York route but it was stopped in 2006 due to economic crisis.
