Rashid Khan has been sidelined since last November due to a back injury. He also underwent surgery to overcome the injury. Now the rehabilitation process is going on. The Afghan star has withdrawn his name from the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) as part of an extra precaution as he is not fully recovered.

Earlier this month, Rashid visited India with the Afghanistan national team but did not enter the field. The 25-year-old leg-spinner has also withdrawn from the latest Big Bash and SA-2020. This time he withdrew from PSL. According to cricket analysts, Rashid does not want to take extra risks to keep himself fully fit for the IPL starting next March.

Rashid played for Lahore Qalandars in the last three seasons of PSL. Among them, the Afghan leg-spinner contributed greatly to Lahore winning the title in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Following this, the franchise retained Rashid from the silver category before this year’s PSL draft.

But Rashid will not play in this season of the tournament as his name has been officially removed. However, Lahore will be able to retain Rashid again in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, the PCB has confirmed that the defending champions will be able to field a player from the replacement draft next Monday instead of Rashid.

“He (Rashid Khan) is an important player,” said Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott, claiming Rashid’s name was removed from the franchise league as part of an extra precaution. We have to make sure that he is 100% fit to play. Recovery from this type of surgery cannot be rushed. When he is fully prepared, he himself will enter the field first. Some more checkups are needed to know if everything is fine or not. Therefore, it is difficult to say when it will fully recover. But hopefully, it will be very soon. But there is no rush, no pressure.’

However, the Afghan star is expected to be fully fit to play in the IPL for the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans.

Before the IPL, Afghanistan will play 1 Test, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against Ireland in the United Arab Emirates. Rashid can return for the national team at that time. Rashid is scheduled to join the team in Gujarat from February 28 to March 18.
