11 flights could not take off at Harat Shahjalal International Airport since Tuesday morning due to dense fog. Among them 1 cargo and 10 passenger transport. Kamrul Islam, Executive Director of Harat Shahjalal Airport confirmed this information on Tuesday.
He said that it was not possible to take off the plane as the runway was not visible in the early morning due to thick fog. The flight could not be operated for about 4 hours. At this time, 11 flights could not take off. Out of this, 4 are arrivals and the rest are exits, he said.
Out of 11 flights, 10 were passenger, 1 was cargo aircraft. Eight flights failed to land in Dhaka and landed in Kolkata and two in Delhi. Two flights to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok did not leave on time.
Later on Tuesday (December 12) flights started arriving again from 8 am. However, when the fog cleared, the flights were operated, said Kamrul Islam.
As the ILS category of the airport has not been improved, every year during the winter season, when the thick fog starts, the aircraft have to face such a situation.
