A woman died in the custody of Detective Police (DB) in Narsingdi. After being arrested in a drug case on Wednesday night, he died in the district hospital at 8 am on Thursday.
The deceased woman’s name is Nurtaj Begum (60). She is the wife of deceased Peer Hussain, a resident of Dakshinkanda Para area of Narsingdi town.
Resident doctor of Narsingdi district hospital. Palash Molla said, ‘The patient was admitted to the hospital at night due to stomach pain. After treatment, he recovered a lot. His chest pain started around 7:30 am. Later he died. It is initially believed that he died of a heart attack. The cause of death can be confirmed after the autopsy.
Meanwhile, the police are claiming that Noortaz is a drug dealer identified in the area. A team of DB Police led by Sub Inspector Naimul Mostak arrested Noortaj Begum from Velanagar area of Narsingdi town along with 10 kg of ganja on Wednesday around 8:30 pm. After the arrest, he was kept in the DB police office. When Nurtaz Begum felt sick around 3 pm, she was admitted to the 100-bed district hospital in Narsingdi. Around 8:30 in the morning he felt chest pain and died shortly after.
Narsingdi district police has formed an investigation committee in this incident. The three-member committee has been asked to submit its report within three days.
Superintendent of Police of Narsingdi Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman said, ‘After the arrest with ganja, the woman in DB custody felt ill and was taken to the hospital. A post-mortem report has been prepared before an executive magistrate as per law. No injury marks were found anywhere on his body. We have formed an investigation committee in this incident.’
Although the deceased Nurtaz Begum admitted to being a drug dealer, his relatives raised questions about his death. Relatives demand to confirm the cause of death through proper investigation.
