Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Joint General Secretary of Awami League. Hasan Mahmud said, ‘Victory Day’s conviction is to make Bangladesh a humanitarian and social welfare state and eradicate negative, destructive politics from the country forever.’

He said this in his speech as the chief guest at the ’52 Years of Victory’ program organized by the Directorate of Films and Publications (DFP) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Information Bhavan Auditorium in Kakrail in the capital this morning.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry Md. Humayun Kabir Khondkar gave a special guest speech in the meeting. Director General of DFP. M. Under the chairmanship of Golam Kibria, Additional Secretary Md. Farooq Ahmed, Director General of BTV. Md. Jahangir Alam, Director General of the Press Institute Zafar Wazed and Director General of the Directorate of Mass Communication. Nizamul Kabir attended the event as an invited guest.

Noting that not only material but also spiritual development of people is very necessary for ethnic development, Hasan Mahmud said, ‘We are not economically poor anymore, but we are behind many. But we are ahead of many in terms of social and family ties, values. Besides, Prime Minister Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina has introduced various types of allowances including old age allowance, widow allowance, husband desertion allowance, maternity allowance for the poor population with the aim of creating a social state. In this way, we want to transform the country into a humanitarian, social welfare state, where the state will take responsibility for all the downtrodden and the poor.’

Information and Broadcasting Minister said, ‘Today, Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of leader Sheikh Hasina, leaving behind all the adversities. Now we are the 35th economy in the world in terms of GDP and 31st in terms of PPP. By 2030, Bangladesh will transform into a 25th or 27th economy. We could have taken this development progress much further if there were no destructive, negative, rumour-mongering politics in the country, because they have slowed down the progress of the country. Today people, cars and horses are being burnt, train lines are being cut, trains are being set on fire in the name of politics. These are not political activities, but terrorist activities.’

Hasan Mahmud said, this terrorism in the name of politics has hindered our development progress and is doing so. So if the country has to be taken to the destination of dreams then this terrorism in the name of politics must be stopped forever. We are determined to stop it. So today on Victory Day we all need to pledge to eradicate this negative, destructive politics from the country forever.

At the beginning of the program, the movie ‘Invincible Bangladesh’ produced by DFP was screened and after the discussion, a wonderful cultural program was performed. Earlier, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Md. Humayun Kabir Khondkar, renovated two floors of the old building of the Directorate of Films and Publications and inaugurated a suiting floor and a photo exhibition based on the liberation war and freedom in front of the building.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting joined the human chain of journalists against terrorism in the name of politics in front of the National Press Club at Topkhana Road in the capital today as the chief guest. Hasan Mahmud.

Under the banner of ‘Media for Development and Peace’ organisation, ‘Stop arson and vandalism in the name of politics, election is the only way to change the government’, National Press Club President Farida Yasmin led the Bangladesh News Agency Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad, Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director Subhash Chand. Badal, Dhaka Journalist Union Joint Editor Khairul Alam, Hemayet Uddin, Hedayet Ullah among the editors of the newspaper participated. Also the President of Dhaka University Teachers Association Professor Dr. Nizamul Haque expressed solidarity with Bhuiyan.

The information minister said to the journalists, ‘Thank you for speaking against arson and taking to the streets. The way BNP-Jamaat hacked a policeman to death in the name of strike, blockade, rally, burnt a driver-helper, beat journalists, burnt vehicles, attacked a police hospital and torched 19 vehicles including an ambulance, defied even the most brutal scenario of a movie. These are not politics, it would be wrong to call them non-politics. Nowhere in the world has there been such brutality in the name of politics, which is being done by BNP-Jamaat. They are enemies of the country, enemies of the society, enemies of the state. We all have to resist them.’

Hasan Mahmud said, ‘There have been many conspiracies about the country, even today, and domestic and foreign circles are connected with this conspiracy. But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking the country forward by uprooting all conspiracies. By uprooting all the conspiracies ahead of the election, the election environment has been created in the country today, enthusiasm has been created, we can present a beautiful election in the country with the massive participation of the people.’
