Complaints of vandalizing election office of independent candidate in Jessore

In Jessore’s Manirampur, independent candidate SM Yakub Ali’s election office was vandalized and his supporters were assaulted. At least 15 people were injured in this incident.

The incident took place at Jhapa in Manirampur on Friday around 9:30 pm. Then the police and BGB went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Manirampur Upazila Awami League organizing secretary Sandeep Ghosh complained that after the election campaign, some workers of independent candidate SM Yakub Ali were staying at the election office. At around 9:30 pm, the crew of the boat suddenly attacked the staff of the Eagle with sharp weapons and sticks. At that time, they vandalized the electoral office and other items including chairs and tables inside. At least 15 activists and supporters of the independent candidate were injured in the attack.

Assistant Returning Officer visited the scene. Zakir Hossain said that law enforcement forces have been instructed to arrest the culprits within the next 24 hours.

Since the incident, there has been tension in the area. Additional police and BGB personnel have been deployed to keep the situation normal. Patrol activities have been increased.
