Two employees of the US Embassy in Spain have been fired after being accused of bribing Spanish intelligence to obtain information. Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said this on Thursday.

He said that a complaint has been made to the United States. However, it will not affect the diplomatic relations of the two countries.

Spain’s defense minister said that Spain and the United States are friends and allies. Issues that may affect our relationship are discussed and dealt with when they arise. These things do not affect our relationship in any way.

Local media outlet Pais reported that the two US embassy staff accused were fired following complaints from Madrid. The investigation revealed that the two American operatives had collected information from US Spanish intelligence in exchange for a large sum of money.

Spain’s defense minister has said that a judicial investigation committee has been formed to look into the corruption of Spain’s intelligence agency CNI. However, the Spanish government did not clarify what kind of information the two US officials had collected.

According to local media, two Spanish detectives were arrested two months ago. But later the court ordered to keep their case secret.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry and the US Embassy in Madrid declined to comment.
