A clash took place on Sunday afternoon in the Ghatakchar area of ​​Madaripur Sadar Upazila over the occupation of an election center. Due to this incident, at least 10 houses of both sides were vandalized, looted and set on fire. About 10 people from both sides were injured. The injured were treated locally.

According to the police, this clash took place from 3 pm to 4 pm.

It has been reported that in the Ghatakchar High School polling station of Sadar Upazila of Sadar Upazila of Madaripur-3, boat symbol candidate Abdus Sobhan clashed with the people of Zainal Matubbar, supporter of the boat symbol, with the workers of Saidul Sharif, the supporter of Tahmina Begum, the eagle symbol. Later, police, BGB and army personnel quickly went to the polling station and brought the situation under control.

Clashes at the polling station spilled over into Kawakura village near Ghatakchar. As a result of previous disputes in the village, both sides clashed. At least 10 houses of both parties were vandalized and looted. Meanwhile, the people who took part in the violence set fire to some kitchens and straw bales on both sides.

Victim Mahinur Begum said, ‘I went to vote in Ghatakchar. I came home and found my house vandalized. At that time, the son who was at home was robbed of Tk 4 lakh, which he had kept to send abroad. Our kitchen has been set on fire.’

Another victim, Soleman Howlader, said, ‘My daughter-in-law’s house was burnt. My daughter-in-law died last year. I don’t know what to do now. He made this mess just by voting.’

Victim Shahinur Begum said, ‘We went to vote. I came home and saw that everything was destroyed. Set fire to our straw bales. We want justice for this incident.’

Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Kamrul Hasan said in this regard, ‘The clash occurred due to the dispute between the former village factions in Kauakuri village, far away from Ghatakchar center. Police, BGB RAB and army personnel went and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
