Clash over cutting land for development, school student died

A school student was killed in a clash between two sides over cutting soil for a rural infrastructure development project. The incident took place on Budhi-Syatati road in Paschim Budhi village of Agia Union in the east of Netrakona on Sunday.

The police have detained two people for questioning in this incident. The name of the deceased student is Rezaul Islam alias Titu (17). He is the son of Mohammad Ali of Budhi village. Rezaul was a class 10 student of a local school.

According to the locals, Purbadhala Police Station OC Muhammad Rashedul Islam said that the dispute between land owner Abdul Hakim and Upazila Chhatra League vice-president Roman Talukdar over soil cutting on the unpaved road led to a fight.

At this time Hakim’s nephew Titu was injured. After being rescued and sent to the upazila health complex, the doctor on duty declared Titu dead. Later the relatives of the deceased got agitated and attacked Roman’s house. Police are deployed at the scene. The law and order situation is under control.

The OC also said that two people have been detained for questioning in this incident. The body has been sent to Netrakona Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Preparations are underway to file a case at the police station.
