In the last 15 years, the movable and immovable wealth of Kishoreganj-3 Constituency Member of Parliament and General Secretary of Jatiya Party Mujibul Haque Chunnu has increased to about 7 crore rupees. In 2008, his wealth was 44 lakh 42 thousand taka. The civil society feels that it is necessary for the government to take steps to verify the information of politicians’ wealth.
Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu is the Member of Parliament elected from Kishoreganj-3 Constituency for three consecutive times. He is also participating in the 12th parliamentary elections. According to the affidavit, in 2008, Mujibul Haque Chunnu had a total wealth of Tk 44 lakh 42 thousand 290 including cash and bank deposits and various movable assets apart from his ancestral house.
According to the affidavit in 2023, Chunnu’s movable assets amount to 4 crore 72 lakh 69 thousand 917 rupees. Besides, there is a car worth Tk 1 crore 10 lakh. And the immovable assets are land worth 1 crore 58 lakh 57 thousand 450 taka.
Meanwhile, in 2008, his wife had 19 lakh 9 thousand 933 taka in cash, money kept in bank and savings paper and 5 katha of land worth 4 lakh 47 thousand taka in Tongi. And currently it has increased to 2 crore 84 lakh 84 thousand 760 taka and 29 gold ornaments. Besides, he has a 15,000 square feet flat worth about one and a half crore taka and a plot worth taka 4,47,000 in the capital.
Representatives of the civil society are raising questions about the increased wealth of parliamentarians. Liberation war researcher and poet Jahangir Alam Jahan said that an elected public representative’s wealth increases a lot, one hundred times, fifty times during the five-year period. There is no transparency and they are not brought under accountability.
Dr. former director of the Department of Health. Deen Mohammad said that people are not aware of how wealth increases and the government does not try to find out any information about it. It is very sad. All the government agencies that have it, ACC can look it up, NBR can look it up. Our banking sector can find. So if every sector works with affidavits, they cannot hide them.
Since 2008, Awami League has not given a candidate for Kishoreganj-3 constituencies three times in a row with Jatiya Party. But this time Nasirul Islam Khan has been nominated as a candidate for the boat.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule of the 12th National Assembly elections on November 15.
