Allegation of closing down the restaurant of a leader of Manikganj District Secchasebak League has been made against the Chhatra League leader of the district. However, District Chhatra League president Sifat Koraishi Suman denied the allegations.
The restaurant named ‘Pansi’ was opened three months ago. Its owner is Abul Bashar, General Secretary of Manikganj District Sechsevak League.
It has been found that the Chinese restaurant named ‘Pansi’ was officially launched on November 10, 2023 in front of Manikganj Colonel Malek Medical College and Hospital in Dighi Union of Sadar Upazila. From then on everything was going well. Manikganj-2 Member of Parliament Zahid Ahmed Tulu visited the Chinese restaurant at the request of restaurant owner Abul Bashar on January 27. District Chhatra League president Sifat Koraishi Sumon along with his followers were present at this time. But on the afternoon of January 28, eight to ten of his followers along with Suman went and told them to close the restaurant, saying the ‘above instructions’. The restaurant has since been closed.
Today at 12 o’clock on Wednesday we went to the Pansi restaurant and found that the main door of the Chinese restaurant is closed. But a chef, an assistant chef, two assistants, a dish wash man and a waiter are sitting inside. At this time, the activities of the restaurant are seen to be closed.
Talked with Kabir Hossain, the head chef of the restaurant. He said, ‘The restaurant has been closed for the last four days. Due to the closure of an ongoing restaurant, the owner is suffering a financial loss of Tk 10,000 every day.
In response to the question of who closed it, Kabir Hossain said, ‘I cannot say anything about this. You talk to the owner.’
When asked about this, the owner of the restaurant and the general secretary of the district Sechchasevak League, Abul Bashar, said, ‘Last Sunday (January 28) at noon, district Chhatra League president Sifat Koraishi Suman and his eight-ten followers told the above instructions to close the restaurant. In fear of them, Monirul Hasan, one of the owners in charge of the manager of my restaurant, closed the Prince Chinese restaurant. After that, he called Suman’s mobile number several times to know the matter, but he did not receive it.
Abul Bashar also said, ‘My restaurant has all kinds of paper updates including trade license. I think they closed the restaurant because MP Tulu was coming. In closing, Suman spoke of local MP Zahid Malek. Suman threatens and says that if the restaurant is not closed at this moment, UNO will be sent and a fine of 5-10 lakhs will be imposed. I will take recourse to the law in this regard.’
However, district BCL president AM Sifat Koraishi Suman denied the allegations and said, ‘I don’t know anything about this. This allegation is completely false, it is an unanswerable question. However, I heard that Pansi restaurant does not have any documents. They themselves have closed their restaurants fearing a consumer rights campaign.’
Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station (OC) said. Habil Hossain said, ‘I don’t know the matter. No one complained about this. If complaints are received, action will be taken after investigation.
