The Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, celebrated the International Migrants Day with due enthusiasm, keeping in mind the motto “Expatriate workers are partners in development, I will uphold their rights”. The day is celebrated jointly with the International Organization for Migration-IOM Iraq.
An exchange meeting was held on the occasion of the day at the Bangladesh Embassy building on Monday.
Representatives of Biman Bangladesh Limited and Janata Bank and expatriate Bangladeshis were present on the occasion.
Hazra Sabbir Hossain, the labor councilor of the embassy, said in a welcome speech at the event, ‘Bangabandhu visited this Gulf country for the first time after the independence of the country. Bangabandhu’s far-reaching leadership led to the arrival of Bangladeshi immigrants in the Gulf countries, the benefits of which are still being enjoyed by the people of Bangladesh. Under the guidance of Bangabandhu’s privileged daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the current government is working sincerely to improve immigration and protect the interests, security and rights of migrant Bangladeshis.
Ambassador of Bangladesh Muhammad Abu Zafar said, ‘Expatriate Bangladeshis are playing a major role in the economic development of the country. Remittances sent by expatriates are one of the main pillars for the country’s infrastructure development and economic prosperity.
The ambassador said, ‘Today’s theme of this day is not only Bangladesh but also the commitment of 193 member countries of IOM. Residents of the UAE are governed by the country’s labor laws. We need to transform the next generation into skilled manpower. It is very important to increase skills along with talent. For this reason less talented children should be educated in technical education.
The ambassador called upon Bangladeshi diaspora to work for the implementation of Bangabandhu’s dream of becoming a prosperous country with high income within 70 years of independence.
On the occasion of the day, various personal problems were discussed with the expatriates present. Ambassadors and embassy officials present shed light on solutions to many immediate problems. At the same time advises on what to do to solve the problem.
