The administration destroyed the ganja fields in the remote hills of Khagrachari. About two acres of ganja plantations were destroyed in a raid in Guimara Chowdhurypara area of the district on Tuesday afternoon.
Guimara upazila executive officer Rajeev Chowdhury said, ‘A gang was cultivating ganja in the hills due to inaccessibility. A search by the security forces found cannabis plants. About 2,000 cannabis plants on two acres of land were set on fire and burnt. The financial value of consuming destroyed cannabis is about 10 crore rupees.
However, the police did not arrest anyone involved in the cultivation of ganja. Law enforcement forces are looking for those involved in the cultivation of marijuana.
Members of the police and army were present during the operation.
