It is the responsibility of the candidates to remove the reluctance of people to vote and bring them to the polling station. Election Commissioner (EC) Rasheda Sultana commented that it is our responsibility to ensure the exercise of voting rights.
He said this in response to a question from the journalists after an exchange meeting with the candidates of 5 constituencies of Pabna participating in the 12th national parliament election at the conference room of Pabna district administration on Friday afternoon.
Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana said, I want to assure the voters that you will come to the polling station without fear and vote for the candidate of your choice. Action will be taken against anyone who threatens or obstructs.
The Election Commissioner said, ‘We want the commission to make this year’s elections free, fair and peaceful. The commission is working towards that goal. That is the message being given to the candidates. So that they bring the voters to the polling station without fear. There is no reason to doubt the vote. We do not believe in words, we believe in actions.’
The election officer also said that legal action will be taken against those who threaten the media, take away or damage any materials used by them.
Additional Divisional Commissioner Delwar Hossain, Rajshahi Divisional Deputy Commissioner of Police Anisur Rahman, Pabna Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mu. Asaduzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam and district administration officials and candidates were present. Earlier, the Election Commissioner attended the meeting with presiding officers of the district.
