Candidates campaigning by getting symbols

Candidates and workers-supporters of the 12th National Assembly elections started campaigning after receiving the symbol. Election Commission (EC) allotted symbols to 1 thousand 896 valid candidates on Monday. The campaign will continue until the morning of January 5.

Allotment of symbols among the candidates started from Monday morning. Through this, the candidates for the parliamentary elections have started their official campaign.

Narayanganj-1 Constituency Member of Parliament and Textile Minister Golam Dastgir Gazi Bir Prateik rushed to the voters after getting the symbol. He presented various promises of development to the voters.

Golam Dastgir said, ‘We will choose, we will choose development. We have developed, the people will vote for the boat after seeing that development.’

In a festive atmosphere, the campaign has started in Chittagong as well. Candidates assured to carry out campaign work in Rajshahi-Khulna in accordance with election code of conduct.

Awami League candidate in Chittagong-1 constituency Mahbub ur Rahman Ruhel said, ‘They are excluding me because of my 20 years of service in Miresarai. I am very optimistic to win here.’

Nani Gopal Mondal, the candidate of boat in Khulna-1 constituency, said, ‘I think the election will be competitive if we are able to attract the support of the voters.’

Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, the candidate of boat in Magura-1 constituency, went to Tungipara to pay his respects at Bangabandhu’s tomb after getting the symbol. He hopes for competitive and fair elections.

Shakib Al Hasan said, ‘Voters should come to the center and vote on January 7. You can vote for whoever you want. I hope everyone votes for me but if not then no problem. I want everyone to exercise their right to vote.’

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, the candidate for Naogaon-1 constituency, has called for strict legal action if peaceful elections are obstructed. He said, ‘This time, it will be shown that the Election Commission can conduct a fair, fair, and celebratory election in a neutral country.’

Candidates of various districts including Sylhet, Barisal, Mymensingh, Bogra, Laxmipur, Noakhali have vigorously engaged in public relations with the candidates and supporters after getting the symbols. Election Commission calls on candidates to follow the code of conduct.

Rajshahi Returning Officer Shamim Ahmed said, ‘You will sit in the National Parliament, be a law maker, so we strongly believe that you will help in maintaining law and order. But if anyone tries to disrupt law and order, strict legal action will be taken against whoever he is.’
