The Election Inquiry Committee has issued show-cause notices to Rabindra University’s proctor and three teachers for allegedly participating in the election campaign on behalf of the Awami League nominated candidate of Sirajganj-6 Chayan Islam.
On Thursday, Sirajganj-6 Constituency Election Inquiry Committee Officer and Joint District and Sessions Judge Md. Mamun-ur-Rashid gave this notice.
Those who received the notice are Rabindra University Proctor Bengali Department Associate Professor Dr. Fakhrul Islam, Assistant Professor of Economics Department Bijan Kumar and Lecturer of Economics Department Syed Ashraf.
District Joint and Sessions Judge Court Bench Assistant Md. Jewel Rana confirmed this information and said that on Friday (January 5) at 3 pm, the accused teachers have been asked to appear before the notice giver’s court and give a written explanation.
It is mentioned in the notice, as public university teachers, those three teachers in the 12th National Parliament election in violation of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates, Rule No. 14 of 2008 and other laws, conducted election campaign on behalf of Chayan Islam, the candidate of the boat symbol on January 3.
The Sirajganj Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner have provided the video footage to the election inquiry committee officer. In this situation, they have been asked to explain in writing why the Election Commission will not be recommended to take legal action against those three teachers of Rabindra University for violating the code of conduct.
