Boat worker arrested in case of election violence in Netrakona-3 constituency

Police has arrested an activist of the boat symbol in election violence in Netrakonar-3 constituency. He was arrested on Wednesday night from his home in Dupi Chandali village of Maska Union of the upazila.

The arrested person has been identified as Khokon Mia (45). He is the son of Sultan Mia of Dupi Chandali village.

Last Monday (February 18) night, there was an attack on the election office of independent candidate former member of parliament Iftikhar Uddin Talukdar Pintur (truck symbol) in Maska Bazar upazila. The day after the incident, Pintu’s supporter Apple Mahmud filed a lawsuit. Local union council chairman Abdus Chalam Bangali was named as the main accused and 19 people including Khokon Mia were named and 70 others were named unknown accused.

It is alleged in the case that the election office of independent MP candidate Iftikhar Uddin Talukder Pintu was attacked at Maska Bazar of the upazila around 8:30 pm on Monday. Supporters of boat candidate Asim Kumar Ukil attacked independent candidate supporters with indigenous weapons including ramda-rods. 10-12 people were injured. At that time several motorcycles vandalized individual supporters in the office.

District Police Spokesperson Additional Superintendent of Police Lutful Haque said Khokon Mia was arrested in a case filed on behalf of an independent candidate. He will be produced in court today. An operation is underway to arrest the other accused in this case.

In this regard, Kendua Upazila Awami League President Abdul Kadir Bhuiya said that on the day of the incident, both sides clashed. Supporters of the boat were also injured. A case has been registered in the police station on behalf of the boat candidate. Arrested Khokon Mia is a pro-boat activist.
