Boat and eagle symbol election camp fire in Lalpur

Miscreants set fire to boat and eagle symbol election camp in Lalpur of Nato 1 seat. The fire incident took place at the election camp of two candidates in Gouripur of Iswardi Union of Upazila on Monday night. Police visited the scene on Tuesday morning after receiving the information.

Locals said that boat symbol candidate Shahidul Islam Bakul and eagle symbol independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad made their election camp at Gauripur market of Ishwardi union of Lalpur upazila of Natore-1 (Lalpur-Bagatipara) constituency. Last night the Eagles supporters all left after the selection work. On arriving in the morning they found their camp on fire and reported the incident to the candidate. Awnings on both sides of the camp were burnt in the fire. On the other hand miscreants set fire to the election camp of the boat at the same junction. It also burnt the fabric of their awnings.

In this regard, advocate Abul Kalam Azad, an independent candidate of Eagle symbol, said that in the morning, his supporters informed about the fire in one of his election camps. He is investigating the matter.

In this context, Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Sharmin Akhtar said that the police was sent to the spot after learning about the burning of the camp. Police are investigating the matter. Legal action will be taken after investigation.

Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nashim Ahmed said that the police have inspected the scene. Both camps have been set on fire. The real facts will be known after the investigation.
