Ambassador of the country Alexander Mantitsky has claimed that BNP leaders’ interpretation of Russia’s position in the 12th National Parliament election is wrong. He said this in response to reporters’ questions after a meeting with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday afternoon.
Alexander Mantitsky said, ‘Russia has never interfered in any internal affairs of Bangladesh, including elections. Awami League came to power by people’s vote, not with the help of any country. BNP is presenting distorted information about Moscow’s role in this regard.
Awami League formed the government for the fourth consecutive time with 223 seats in the last January 7 election. The BNP, which was agitating for the resumption of the caretaker government system, did not participate in this election.
Even before the elections, the party had been conducting various diplomatic talks with Western countries including America. In this situation, many of the party’s top leaders thought that this election without BNP would not be accepted internationally. However, after the election, the leaders of most of the Western countries, including America, EU, congratulated the new government.
BNP leaders claim that Russia, China and India have supported Awami League in getting international support for the elections. The senior leaders of the party have also given a public statement about this.
