Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said, ‘BNP is doing a peaceful program without participating in the elections. They will be dealt with if they want to resist the election.’
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal held a meeting with the contending candidates for 6 seats in Sylhet on Saturday. He said these things after an exchange meeting with the local administration regarding the law and order situation ahead of the upcoming elections in Sylhet District Art Academy.
At that time, the CEC also said, ‘When the armed forces are in the field during the elections, it will create a favorable environment for fair elections. People will be confident about the election environment.’
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal also urged the media to play a role in preventing false propaganda on election day.
Candidates competing in 6 seats of the district and their representatives participated in the exchange meeting which started at 10 am in the district circuit house. There are 35 candidates in 6 constituencies of Sylhet.
Later in the afternoon, the CEC attended a discussion meeting with various levels of police and district administration officials regarding the law and order situation surrounding the elections at Sylhet Shilpakala Academy. The concerned persons said that this visit of CEC is to observe the overall environment and law and order situation of the 12th Parliament elections.
